Equality and Diversity Policy

For God so loved the world...text and image of Jesus on the crossThe Anchor chaplaincy prides itself on its following our Lord Jesus Christ's teachings and following His example as revealed in the stories of His interactions with others through each of the four gospels, actions which echo the prophetic rebukes and sorrow about the way we treat one another throughout the Old Testament.

Jesus was notable for challenging the use and abuse of religious power, including criticising the use of legalism (making people follow rules and excluding them if they didn't or couldn't) self-righteousness (following rules and calling oneself 'righteous' yet being hard-hearted and unforgiving towards others), and of course, missing the point about God's love towards each one of us, freely given, liberal grace which is all gift, undeserved and which cannot be earned.

We believe that such unconditional love was revealed in Jesus still choosing to lay down His life for us even as we rejected Him, and that we can be harbingers of that love when we show the same non-judgemental, accepting hospitality and love to all whom we meet, whether or not they share our faith traditions.
