One Star Fish at a Time

Today, Howard, a Placement Consultant, who knows just what its like to fight your way out of worklessness through to a permanent address with regular work, brought Lee for his induction interview.

Lee is polishing up his administrative skills and I'm sure he will be cribbing off Barbara who came to us on twelve week college placement last October and developed so quickly that having passed her initial assigments has gone on to a Business Administration course. She delighted her college tutor with a first powerpoint that was used for Holocaust Memorial Day where not only did she learn how to use the program, but researched equality and diversity issues and using evocative images to create a presentation so good, everyone who saw it asked for copy!

While Skills-Solutions, Salford City College and Salford University provide the key teaching elements of each volunteer including Health & Saftey at work, equality and diversity training, customer service as well as careers advice, The Anchor supports their assignments with cutsom made tasks and works with the volunteers on a personal progression program including team styles, personality profiling and interpersonal skills.

Young people from a workless background especially benefit from a placement that gives real world experience in a supported learning environment where output is not more inportant than input.

If you would like to be a part of making a difference to just one young person's life by offering a placement or training opportunities in or near MediaCityUK, please email Hayley on Chaplain@anchormediacityuk.org or howard.anstock@skills-solutions.org.uk.
