If you have any involvement in the media industry at all, it would be difficult not to have noticed what has been happening over the last year or so on the banks of Manchester’s historic ship canal at Salford Quays.
In a region that is steeped with a reputation for providing the highest levels of creativity, MediaCityUk’s doors are now open to a whole host of media related service companies including production caterers, designers, casting agencies and publicity companies.
MediaCityUk's thriving 200-acre creative hub is home to the BBC’s 2,300 staff with Quay House being the main building from where BBC Breakfast, Match of the Day, North West Tonight and BBC Radio 5 will be broadcast. ITV's Granada 's division plan to move from their Granada Studios to MediaCityUK in 2012. The site also houses seven high-definition studios, one of the largest complexes in Europe. The larger of the 2 audio studios is dedicated to the BBC Philharmonic Orchestra.
Bridge House will be where Blue Peter, Mastermind, Dragons Den and BBC Bitesize are produced and Dock House contains BBC's Research and Religion and Ethics departments. Orange an 11-storey building will house departments from Salford University and staff from ITV Granada. The Pie Factory and The Greenhouse are the domain for a plethora of small companies in the media and creative industries.
